"Cyber Threats and Awareness"
Presented by George Reeves
Department of Homeland Security

The Nation State Actors work for a government to disrupt or compromise targeted governments, organizations or individuals to gain access to valuable data or intelligence, and can create incidents that have international significance.

Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to deny access to a computer system or data until a ransom is paid. Ransomware typically spreads through phishing emails or by unknowingly visiting an infected website. Ransomware can be devastating to an individual or an organization.

During this session, we will have a discussion on cyber threats ranging from Nation State Actors to Ransomware. This will be followed by a discussion on the recommended practices to educate and protect users from being a cyber victim.

10:30 am - 11:15

"Shopping Safely Online"
Presented by Jim Cammack
Lamar State College Port Arthur

This past Cyber Monday, consumers spent nearly $8 billion online, with over 54% of purchases made directly from smartphones. Two days prior, on Black Friday, online sales surpassed $6 billion. Shopping online is more convenient than having to drive to multiple stores, wait in traffic, wait in line, and then unpack everything when you get home. But, if you don't take proper precautions, online shopping can be very dangerous. During this session, we will present tips and suggestions for protecting yourself while shopping on the Internet. We will explain how encryption helps keep your communications and shopping sessions private, and how identity theft happens when shopping.

11:30 am - 12:15

"Password Pain Relief"
Presented by Fay Young
City of Port Arthur

Statistics show that 81% of data breaches are caused by compromised, weak, and reused passwords. In addition, it is estimated that people will have to manage as many as 300 billion passwords by the year 2020. That's 40 passwords for every man, woman, and child on the planet.

During this session, we will discuss the importance of strong passwords, how to create strong passwords, and how to manage multiple passwords.
